Diving: Northern Nevada Division I Regional Championships, University of Nevada, Reno.

Sheriff’s Office Open House: The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will host an open house May 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. at 1038 Buckeye Road. The event will give citizens an opportunity to tour the station, including a guided tour of the jail, numerous demonstrations and displays. Attendees will also have an opportunity to see specialized equipment including the crisis negotiation team vehicle and equipment, the emergency communications center mobile command post, patrol vehicles and more. Hot dogs, chips and refreshments will be provided.

Mother’s Day Breakfast: The Carson Valley Lions Club will host their annual Mothers Day Pancake Breakfast on the lawn of the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center on Sunday, May 10, from 9-11am.  Breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, eggs, juice, and coffee for $7.00 per person.  All proceeds will benefit the Douglas County Historical Society.  Musical entertainment will be provided by Ted Nagel’s Rolling Thunder.

Minden Summer Kickoff: The summer kickoff Minden Street Celebration event on Esmeralda Avenue is May 12th from 4-6 p.m. Bently Enterprises will be hosting their public Open House at the newly renovated (and award-winning!) Farmers Bank from 3-6pm. The Historical Society and Dangberg Home Ranch will be hosting a Lemonade Stand where you can record your favorite memories of Minden. Corner Bar will offer food and drink specials, and All Hat No Cattle will serenade you while you eat. Local vendors include Killer Salsa, Italian Hearts Pasta Sauces, Bently Ranch Meats, and Blind Dog Coffee. Lawn games will be set up in the park, and a balloon artiste will be creating balloon animals. Main Street Minden will be there with information about the program, and to learn what you want to see in Minden. COD Casino will be offering conversations about the fabulous museum pieces in their collection. The Heritage room is a must see.

Square Dancing: The Genoa Town Twirlers, Douglas County’s Square Dance club invites you to join us for Beginning Square Dance Lessons during the month of May: Each Tuesday in May at the Genoa Town Hall, 6:30 –7:45 p.m. For more information, call John Hall, Caller at 775-461-3498 or 775-267-2198. First time of dancing free! $6.00 per week, per person after that. No special attire needed, come as you are.  Refreshments served. Come join the dance that swept the west.

Teen Self-Defense Workshop: A self-defense class for teen girls will be offered May 16 at 9 a.m. at A Dance Workshop, 1697 County Road in Minden. The 1.5 hour workshop costs $50 and will help participants transfer fear into empowerment, teaching intuition, awareness and self-protection. Instructors include 10th degree senior grandmaster Dave Hebler, eighth degree associate master Dave Prosser and eighth degree associate master Gary Wilson. Call 775-690-4133 for more information.

Night At The Kentucky Derby: A Night at the Kentucky Derby is on May 16, 2015 starting at 5:00pm in the Grand Dining Room at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center. Individual tickets start at $125, sponsorship and table packages available. Also, local organizations, individuals and businesses can own and name their own horse in the horse races for just $100.
