POCATELLO, Idaho — The Douglas High football team matched Rigby High School, a squad expected to make some noise in the Idaho 5A classification this year, punch-for-punch through most of the first half Saturday morning before Rigby rode a big third quarter to a 56-32 win.
Douglas’ Hunter Hickey threw three touchdown passes over the course of the Tigers’ first four drives, giving Douglas a 20-14 lead through the midpoint of the second quarter, but Rigby rattled off six unanswered scores from there.
Hickey completed nine passes on 18 attempts for 188 yards and he and Dakota Lowden each carried 17 times for 22 yards.
Devon Ryan caught seven passes for 195 yards and three touchdowns. Nathan Cruz and Lowden each scored touchdowns as well.
Gabriel Wetzel appeared to score on a 90-yard kickoff return late in the game, but the play was called back on a penalty.
Douglas next travels to Reed Friday night for a 7 p.m. game.
