GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — The Lyons Fire, which started during the battery of storms Tuesday afternoon, continues to burn east of the Pine Nut Mountains and just north of the Douglas County/Carson City line. It had consumed 1,128 acres as of last update Wednesday evening.
Sixty-eight personnel are battling the blaze, which is burning in brush and understory timber. Estimated containment is set for Sunday.
Temperatures will be on a steady climb through the weekend, topping out near 96 degrees on Monday.We should be clear of the last week’s worth of thunderstorms starting today, with a high of 89 degrees expected this afternoon and winds gusting up to 20 mph.
A READing Paws therapy dog will be available at the Minden Library this afternoon between 3:30 and 5:30. Children of all ages and reading levels are invited to read with a registered therapy dog and the dog’s handler. Each child will spend 15 minutes with a dog. Time slots are available on a first come, first serve basis. Parental permission is required, and permission forms are available at the library. This program is offered in partnership with READing Paws, a local affiliate of Intermountain Therapy Animals. The Douglas County Public Library is located at 1625 Library Lane in Minden.
