Afternoon Lightning Strikes Keep Fire Crews Busy

Staff Reports · 1 min read

MINDEN, Nev. — An afternoon thunderstorm sparked multiple small fires across Carson Valley Tuesday, as well as a 150-acre fire near Voltaire Canyon in Carson City.

East Fork Fire Protection District Chief Tod Carlini said crews responded to numerous lightning-caused fires both within and outside the district.

Several East Fork resources were sent to assist with the Voltaire fire.

“We did institute our resource management plan and did a full call back of staff and all available volunteers,” Carlini said. “All fires were attended by local or federal resources, both ground and air.”

Carlini said there were also some flash flood concerns based on stream gauge monitors.
