Good Morning, Carson Valley: Aug. 8

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a flash flood watch for portions of Northern Nevada and Northeast California, including Carson Valley, from 1 p.m. through 9 p.m.

Storms producing heavy rainfall are possible this afternoon and evening. Steep terrain, recently burned areas from wildfires, and areas which have  which have already received heavy rainfall over the past weekend, will be at particular risk for flash flooding and debris flow.

The NWS said individuals should be aware of potentially hazardous conditions and that they shouldn’t drive over areas where water covers the road.

Look for a high of 87 degrees this afternoon. The recent spate of thunderstorms should clear out after Wednesday, leaving clear skies and high temperatures in the low 90s through the weekend.

The Douglas County Public Library hosts toddler storytime this morning for children 18 months to 3 years of age at 10:30 a.m. Children will participate in music and felt-board stories.  Preschool storytime for children ages 3 to 5 years will be at 11:15 a.m.  Music and crafts will be included. The Minden Library is located at 1625 Library Lane.

The MindenFest Farmers Market on Esmeralda Avenue in Minden  runs from 4 to 8 p.m. tonight.
