Good Morning, Carson Valley: Aug. 2

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — The final leg of the Carson City freeway is set to open this morning – the Nevada Department of Transportation had said it would be opening around 10 a.m. at the south entry to the freeway. More on that story here.

The East Fork Fire Protection District sent engine 12 to help with the attack on the White Creek Fire in southwest Reno. The fire had burned 60 acres with 20 percent containment as of the last update Tuesday evening.

The hottest day of this heat wave is expected to be today with a high of 104 degrees in the forecast for Gardnerville. There is a 20 percent chance of isolated thunderstorms this afternoon, along with continued haze coming over from fires in California.

Thursday has a high of 103 degrees in store before we should drop back down below 100 (though just to 99 degrees) on Friday. Overnight lows will hang around in the 60-degree range.

Temperatures should ease into the low 90s next week.

Toddler storytime for children 18 months to 3 years of age will be today at 10:30 a.m. at the Minden Library located at 1625 Library Lane.

The Sierra Chef Farm to Fork Farmers Market runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Wednesday through Sept. 13.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada will host an informational meeting at 5:30 p.m., at Carson Valley Accounting, 1663 US 395 Suite 201, Minden. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada serve 340 children in Carson Valley. The organization is scouting for possible sites to build a stand-alone clubhouse as it is rapidly outgrowing its current location at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School. Light snacks will be served.
The Minden Town Board meets at 5:30 p.m. at the CVIC Hall, 1604 Esmeralda Avenue in Minden, tonight at 5:30 p.m. (Agenda), and the Town of Genoa Advisory Board meets at 6:30 p.m. at the Genoa Town Meeting Room, 2289 Main Street in Genoa (Agenda).
