GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — The Preacher Fire grew to 5,386 acres on Wednesday, though fire behavior was described as moderate to minimal.

Crews continue to focus on structure protection as sudden changes in the weather could drive the fire past containment lines north and east toward structures. They’re also continuing to secure the fire line, mop up hot spots and up the 20 percent containment on the fire ahead of hot and dry conditions this weekend. Updates to the story are available here.

A high of 93 degrees under mostly clear skies is expected today, gradually rising to 97 degrees by Monday with thunderstorms possible Friday through most of next week.

A READing Paws therapy dog will be available at the Minden Library from 10:30 to noon today. Children of all ages and reading levels are invited to read with a registered therapy dog and the dog’s handler. Each child will spend 15 minutes with a dog. Time slots are available on a first come, first serve basis. Parental permission is required, and permission forms are available at the library.  The library is located at 1625 Library Lane in Minden.

That’s a full lid for this morning. Take care out there and have a great day.
