GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — Despite the thick cloud over the Valley this morning, air quality is actually improving from Wednesday, having risen from “hazardous” to “very unhealthy” to “unhealthy” on the Air Quality Index scale.
The Detwiler Fire near Yosemite continued to rage on Wednesday, growing to 48,000 acres with 29 structures destroyed in California.
The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Smoke Advisory through 5 p.m. tonight. Look for a high of 92 today, with a return to the high 90s expected Saturday.
The Douglas County Board of Commissioners meets today at 1 p.m. at the Tahoe Transportation Center, 169 Highway 50 in Stateline. Find their agenda here.
A READing Paws therapy dog will be available at the Minden Library from 10:30 to noon today. Children of all ages and reading levels are invited to read with a registered therapy dog and the dog’s handler. Each child will spend 15 minutes with a dog. Time slots are available on a first come, first serve basis. Parental permission is required, and permission forms are available at the library. The library is located at 1625 Library Lane in Minden.
The library is also hosting a mug cake baking event as part of the Adult Summer Reading Program at 5:30 p.m. All mugs and ingredients will be provided. Several mug recipes will be featured and will include sweet and savory options. Participants of all ages are welcome; however, children must be accompanied by a supervising adult.
Main Street Gardnerville hosts its Thirsty Third Thursday Wine Walk from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Main Street Gardnerville District.
And Sgt. Bernadette Smith will be on KOH 780 AM radio from 5:15 to 6 p.m. this evening discussing recruitment for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
