GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — A one-acre fire in the Pine Nut range in the area of Sunrise Pass Road was contained Thursday afternoon.

Reports of lightning strikes in the area came in before 3 p.m. Crews kept busy monitoring the Valley as a thunderstorm rolled over the Valley through the early evening.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a 20 percent chance of isolated thunderstorms this afternoon with a high of 96 degrees anticipated. Saturday and Sunday should each hit near 97 degrees before we begin a gradual decline into the low 90s through next week.

The Nevada Highway Patrol released the identities Thursday of the man and woman killed in the crash on Kingsbury Grade on the Fourth of July. Two others transported for medical care suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. More on that story here.

Douglas County Sheriff Ron Pierini will take part in a town hall event at Sanchez Ranch Meat Co., 1734 Highway 395 in Minden from 5 to 6 p.m. tonight. It will be hosted by Jon Sanchez of KOH 780 AM, and broadcast on that channel as well.

The Town of Gardnerville hosts Movies in the Park tonight at dusk. They’ll be showing “The Jungle Book” at Heritage Park.

That’s a full lid for this morning. Take care out there and have a great day.
