GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — The East Fork Fire Protection District approved a request Wednesday morning from the Nevada Department of Emergency Management for a Type III brush truck to a central staging location in Flagstaff, Ariz., where a number of fires are burning in the area. The crew will help battle a blaze near Sedona, Ariz.
The team consists of Captain Brian Nelson, Engineer Jeff May and Firefighter Jeremy Hall. The Sparks Fire Department will be sending a Type III brush unit to the same location as well, according to East Fork Battalion Chief Steve Eisele.
Closer to home, we’re looking at a high of 91 degrees this afternoon with calm winds under 5 mph. Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday will see highs in the mid-90s while a high of 89 is still in the preliminary forecast for Independence Day on Tuesday.
A READing Paws therapy dog will be available at the Minden Library from 10:30 to noon today. Children of all ages and reading levels are invited to read with a registered therapy dog and the dog’s handler. Each child will spend 15 minutes with a dog. Time slots are available on a first come, first serve basis. Parental permission is required, and permission forms are available at the library. The library is located at 1625 Library Lane in Minden.
