GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — The National Weather Service has issued a snowmelt flood advisory for southern Douglas County, northern Mono County and southern Lyon County effective through June 21.
An anticipated long duration of high temperatures will increase snowmelt from the remaining deep snowpack in the mountains.
The West Walker River is projected to peak six inches above flood stage overnight Sunday along Highway 395 south of Coleville.
There is a potential for minor flooding of rural roads and recreation areas in the Walker River Canyon, agricultural areas and rural roads in Antelope Valley, and East Walker Road below Strosnider Ditch near Mason.
The National Weather Service also states that the prolonged high flows may create unexpected impacts. Drivers are urged not to drive through flood waters.
Further west, NWS projections show the Carson River remaining at least 12 inches below flood stage at all points (and 36 inches below flood stage along the main stem between Genoa and Carson City) through Tuesday.
