July 23, 1935-March 19,2017
If a front-desk receptionist can be considered the face of a business, and a newspaper the face of a community, it could be argued Barbara Gerber served as the face of the Carson Valley community during her decade working as the office receptionist at The Record-Courier from 1998-2008.
Barbara, 81, passed away March 19, 2017 at her daughter’s home in Minden.
A reception in her memory is 5:30-7:30 p.m. May 10 at The Record-Courier, 1503 Highway 395, Suite G in Gardnerville. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served.
Before joining The Record-Courier in 1998, Barbara and her late husband, Dave Gerber, operated the Pipeline Inn Restaurant in Minden for 10 years.
She was born July 23, 1935 in Solano County, Calif., the daughter of Lacey and Edna Martin. She graduated from Dinuba Union High School in Dinuba, Calif., in 1953. Barbara loved to garden, play cards and attend concerts in Minden Park. She will be remembered for her vivacious personality and friendly smile.
She is survived by her children, Jeff (Saron) Riggs, Kathleen (Brandon) Swain and Diane Riggs; grandchildren Samantha Jabbour, Shannon Brown, Daniel Swain, Jennifer Pickering, Kandis Miranda, Jillian Harris and Alana Jenkins; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Obituaries are an important way to celebrate the lives of loved ones within the community. They help carry on, if even in a small way, the legacy of the friends, family and neighbors that have helped weave this community into the wonderful place it is. At the Carson Valley Times, we run obituaries free of charge. To celebrate your loved one, please e-mail obituary information to email@example.com. Feel free to include a picture. If you’re at a loss for what to write, start simply with who the person was, and what they meant to you. Include a birth date and date of death, how they came to reside in Carson Valley and any other details you feel are important. If there are planned memorial services, make sure to include a date, time and address.
