Chesley Elgin Wass
Feb. 3, 1934-March 9, 2017
An open house/celebration of life will be held for Chesley (Chet) Wass on the patio of the Carson Valley Country Club on Friday, March 17, 2017 from 5 to 6:30 pm.
Chet was born on February 3, 1934, the twelfth of twenty children born to his father, William Wass and mother, Amy Bays at home in Mariposa, California.
Chet attended school in Mariposa and was described by his family as “a happy baby and as he grew older developed a good sense of humor. He loved to play pranks on others and unlike most boys who got into trouble at home and school for being mischievous, Chet was most often in trouble for his uncomfortable fits of laughter when he got ticked about something or played a prank on someone.”
After a stint in the Army, Chet began his career in the construction industry with Bing Materials and moved with the company to the Carson Valley in 1965. He was employed with Bing for over 50 years. Due to his employment with Bing he was very involved in the development of our community and growth of the valley. In 1990 he opened Superior Lube and Car Wash and Auto Sales in Gardnerville and was also a co-owner in Dayton Materials in Dayton, NV.
A long time resident of the valley he has been described as “a kind, loyal, hard-working family man, one of those old school guys that just aren’t around anymore with great values that he was passionate enough about to hand down to
Chet is survived by his wife Janet (Richardson) Wass of 61 years, daughter, Terry Wass of Gardnerville, Nev., son Jeff Wass and his wife Jodi of Gardnerville, NV, and is preceded in death by son Steven Wass, who died in June of 2002.
