CARSON CITY, Nev. — The Douglas High baseball team managed to get the tying run on board in the top of the seventh Wednesday night, but Carson found a way to shut the door, escaping with a 4-3 win.
Douglas can still find its way into the playoffs with a win Thursday as ninth-place McQueen lost, leaving the Tigers with a one-game lead for the final playoff spot.
On Wednesday, Douglas carried a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth, when Carson strung together three runs to go ahead.
Douglas’ Haden Keller led off the seventh with a single and moved to second when Haydn Brown grounded out.
Spencer Trivitt singled with two outs, bringing Keller around, but Carson recorded a strikeout to end the game.
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Tomas Leitenbauer reached on a fielder’s choice, scoring Zach Davies from third with Logan Fencl being forced out at second.
Keller drew a walk to lead off the fifth, moved to second on a wild pitch, to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch to put Douglas up 2-1.
Douglas and Carson will meet up Thursday afternoon in Minden at 3:45 p.m.
