RENO, Nev. — The Douglas High baseball team picked up a key doubleheader sweep from North Valleys on the road Saturday, improving to 8-12 in Northern Division I action.
It was Douglas’ seven and eighth wins in its last 10 contests. The Tigers wrap up the regular season this week at Carson Wednesday and at home against the Senators on Thursday.
Isaiah Schat pitched a complete game in Game 1, striking out eight and walking three to pick up the 4-1 win.
Douglas nursed a 1-0 lead from the top of the first inning until adding three runs in the top of the seventh. North Valleys got on the board in the bottom of the seventh with a run but could get no closer.
Kaleb Foster went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the win. Spencer Trivitt went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Cale Kynett, Haydn Brown, Zac Davies and Logan Fencl each had singles.
Douglas claimed Game 2, getting a game-tying sacrifice fly from Logan Fencl to score Kaleb Foster and a run-scoring single from Zac Davies with two outs in the seventh, bringing Haydn Brown home.
Hunter Simpson, who worked 5.1 innings in picking up the win, struck out three and walked three while getting two outs into the bottom of the seventh. Davies then shut the door, recording the final out to notch the save on the mound.
Foster went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs in the win, Fencl drove in a pair of runs, Haden Keller collected two hits and Brown, Spencer Trivitt, Davies, Tomas Leitenbauer and Kindel Isham each singled.
