RENO, Nev. — The Douglas High baseball team built itself a 12-2 lead at Wooster Thursday afternoon and then managed to hold off a furious Colts comeback to claim a 12-11 win.
The win marked Douglas’ sixth in its last eight games, improving to 6-12 in league play this year.
Blake Murray picked up the win on the mound, striking out two and walking one and Zach Davies picked up the save, striking out four in two innings of work.
Cale Kynett went 3-for-4 at the top of the lineup and Haden Keller, Kaleb Foster, Spencer Trivitt and Tomas Leitenbauer each collected two hits. Haydn Brown also had a hit. Foster doubled and drove in three runs, Keller, Leitenbauer and Trivitt each drove in two and Davies and Kynett each drove in one.
Wooster closed the gap in the game with a four-run fifth and then scored five runs on five hits before Davies recorded a strikeout and induced a groundout to Trivitt at third to end the game.
Douglas next travels to North Valleys for a doubleheader at 11 a.m. Saturday.
