MINDEN, Nev. — After seeing a 3-0 lead dissolve in the top of the fifth inning, the Douglas High baseball team roared back with a four-run bottom half to push ahead for a 7-3 win over Wooster on Senior Day at Tiger Field Tuesday afternoon.
It was Douglas’ fifth win in its last seven games.
“The goal is just to get better every day,” Douglas baseball coach John Glover said. “When we play solid baseball, it really shows. If we can play solid defense and throw strikes, and getting four runs with two outs in the fifth there, that’s huge.
“The kids are getting better and improving, which is fun.”
Douglas’ Isaiah Schat had a huge game on the mound, striking out 13 in 6 1/3 innings while walking just one and scattering four hits.
“He’s doing a really good job,” Glover said of the sophomore. “He’s started throwing more strikes. Getting a breaking ball over the plate has been huge for him and he gets better every time out.”
Zach Davies picked up the save in relief, striking out one.
At the plate, Haden Keller belted a pair of doubles (2-for-3), Spencer Trivitt went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a double, Tomas Leitenbauer went 2-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs and Hadyn Brown, Nick Wilkinson, Kaleb Foster and Davies each drove in a run.
Douglas scored a run each in the second, third and fourth innings before Wooster tied the game up.
With two outs in the fifth and a runner on second, though, Brown, Trivitt, Wilkinson, Davies and Leitenbauer each hit nearly twin singles up the middle to plate four runs.
