RENO, Nev. — The Douglas High School softball team picked up a key doubleheader sweep over Manogue in Reno Saturday.
In Game 1, Douglas got a pinch-hit home run from Shaena Robinson in the top of the seventh inning to go ahead for good in a 6-5 win.
Kali Sargent pitched a complete game, striking out 11 and giving up seven hits to claim the win. Leonna Mortimer hit a home run as well. Nichole Dunn had a key two-out hit in the fourth inning that drove in a run and Maddie Parks went 2-for-4 with a double.
Kaitlyn Bowman pitched a complete game in Game 2, giving up seven hits on her way to a victory. Allison Meyer went 2-for-3 with a home run. Mackenzie Brixey and Kylie Swan each had two hits in the 10 hit attack. Casey Peck hit a two-out, two-run single in the 3rd inning.
“These wins were real big for our team,” Douglas coach Rob Parks said. “We had been losing close games to good teams because our defense had let down our pitchers. Today, everything came together–two solid pitching performances by Kali and Kaitlyn, solid defense, and timely hitting. We will need to continue this recipe as we head closer to the zone playoffs.”
