MINDEN, Nev. — The Douglas High baseball team found a way to get within a base-hit of tying, and an extra-base hit of winning, but the Spanish Springs found a way to close the door, escaping with a 4-2 win Thursday afternoon.
Trailing 4-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Douglas’ Spencer Trivitt led off with a looping double to left field. Haden Keller moved Trivitt to third with a one-out single and Kaleb Foster loaded the bases after getting hit by a pitch with two outs.
Cale Kynett walked, bringing Trivitt home, and Zach Davies reached on an error which allowed Trevor Tierney (running for Keller) to score.
Spanish Springs recorded a strikeout to end the game with the bases loaded, though, sending Douglas to its eighth league loss.
Trivitt, Keller, Nick Wilkinson and Tomas Leitenbauer each had hits in the game.
Douglas is off over the next week before travelling to Reno April 4 for an 11 a.m. game.
