GARDNERVILLE, Nev., March 12, 2015 – It is Nevada’s Big Give Day, and the Douglas County Public Library Foundation and Carson Valley Trails Association are among the many charities in the state accepting donations through the project.

From midnight earlier this morning to 11:59 p.m. tonight, Nevadans are encouraged to give to local charities at

As of 6:45 a.m., $116,831 had been raised for charities across the state. The top three nonprofits that receive donations from the greatest number of unique fonors and most dollars raised will receive bonus cash prizes at the conclusion of the day. There will also be random Golden Ticket drawings throughout the day to add to the assorted nonprofit groups’ totals.

Also, tonight, the Douglas County Historical Society’s Second Thursday Lecture Series will feature Phillip Earl with a presentation on “Hollywood in the Wild West” at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 US Highway 395 in Gardnerville. See where fiction, fun and fact collide. Cost is $3 at the door, DCHS members free. Doors open at 6 p.m., lecture begins at 7 p.m.

Temperatures will return into the 70s Friday and continue through the weekend. Our next shot at precipitation will be next Tuesday at the earliest, and even that for now is just a slight chance of rain showers.

Sierra Chef’s next cooking class will be March 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Italian Hearts Pasta Sauces Kitchen, 1425 Industrial Way in Gardnerville. Chef Diane Weidinger of Heart Rock Herb & Spice is the guest instructor, covering spice blending for dishes such as Zucchini Feta Pancakes, Mini Beef Sliders, Honey Glazed Carrots and more. Ability level is for beginner adults (over 21) for the hands-on instructional session. Class size limit is 12 and cost is $75 per per person. To sign up for the class, visit this link.

We got to about half of our list of 20 stories on Wednesday and added five or six more to our list, making for a busy day out in front of us. It may be Friday or Saturday before we’re able to clear the list, but the good news for you is that there will be plenty of updates in between.
