The Douglas High softball team opened its season in exciting fashion Thursday, winning 8-6 in extra innings over McQueen. The Douglas baseball team fell 7-2 at home against Galena.
The Tiger baseball team takes on Spanish Springs at Reed at 11 a.m. this morning and takes on Damonte Ranch at Damonte Ranch at 3:30 p.m. They wrap up the opening weekend Saturday playing North Valleys at Carson at 10 a.m. and the Senators at Carson at 1 p.m.
The defending regional champion Douglas High swim & dive team opens its season at 2 p.m. at the Carson Aquatic Center against Damonte Ranch today. And the Douglas High track & field team gets going Saturday at Galena at 9 a.m.
In the non-sports world, the Heritage Park Gardens will host a Community Gardening Day Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. with activities for the whole family. Sign-ups for garden plot rentals for the 2015 growing season will be taken as well as sign-ups for a series of free monthly workshops for children in the new Children’s Garden. Heritage Park Gardens is located behind Heritage Park in Gardnerville.

Chef Diane Weidinger of Heart Rock Herb & Spice is the guest instructor, covering spice blending for dishes such as Zucchini Feta Pancakes, Mini Beef Sliders, Honey Glazed Carrots and more.
