The Minden Christmas Bird Count is looking for people who operate Bird Feeders around their homes. The 5th Annual Minden Christmas Bird Count is taking place on Saturday January 3th. starting at 7am. and the birds visiting the feeders can be included in the total count of species as well as the total number of birds.

This is a chance for anyone who can identify two or more species of birds to take part in the longest ongoing science survey in the United States. The data gathered shows what birds and how many are located in a 15 mile diameter circle covering Minden, Gardnerville and surrounding Douglas County at this time of year.

The Christmas Bird Count Feeder reports of over 500 birds for 2013 were included in the grand totals of over 8,500 birds comprised of 89 species for last year’s Christmas Bird count. The numbers show the importance of the Carson Valley as an important wintering area for birds migrating around in western United States and Canada.
