Good Morning, Carson Valley: Nov. 26

GARDNERVILLE, Nev., November 26, 2014 — We’re curious what your favorite family traditions are for Thanksgiving. For example, our family used to have an annual Turkey Bowl, where we’d go bowling at whatever alley might have been open on the holiday (sometimes this had to wait until the Friday after).

The winner received a bowling pin decorated roughly to look like a turkey, or at least a bowling pin with feathers and a beak. The trophy rotated annually, and the criteria for winning the trophy was determined by the previous year’s winner, meaning the winner could be whoever rolled the most gutter balls, or whoever ate the most chicken wings. Or the straight-up winner.

This year, we’re doing a progressive dinner, stopping at one house for appetizers, another for soup and salad, yet another for the main meal and wrapping up at our home for dessert.

What are your traditions? Backyard football? Going to the movies?

Speaking of which, Thanksgiving brings with it an accelerated movie release schedule at Ironwood 8 Cinemas, so we’ll have the newest movie listings a little later this morning.
