GARDNERVILLE, Nev. (November 19, 2014) – The Kiwanis Club of the Carson Valley presented Family Support Council of Douglas County, with a donation in the amount of $500.00 at the weekly Kiwanis meeting held on October 30th. Steve Decker, Executive Director of Family Support Council was present to receive the donation. Kiwanis Club Vice President Gary Dove commended Family Support Council for their dedication to the wellbeing of children and youth in the Carson Valley. “Family Support Council is definitely one of the organizations in our community that compliments the mission of the Kiwanis.” said Dove.
Family Support Council is Douglas County’s family resource center, and in addition, provides domestic violence intervention and prevention services to local families. The agency serves 300 families annually through their programs and services. The Kiwanis Club presented the donation to be used as needed to fulfill or enhance the services Family Support Council Provides. “We are very excited that Family Support Council can partner with all of the community organizations.” said Decker upon accepting the donation.
A service group comprised of 45 members, the Kiwanis Club conducts fund raisers throughout the year to give back to agencies within the community whose services benefit the wellbeing of Carson Valley’s children and youth. Such fund raisers include the annual Eagles in Ag Concert, ice cream sales at Minden’s Summer Concert in the Park series, Fall Football Book Sales, and Turkey Bingo.
Kiwanis is a worldwide service organization for men and women who want personal involvement in the leadership and improvement of their communities and worldwide. Children and youth are the primary focus. The Club’s Facebook page further elaborates on the mission stating, “Our club has members from all walks of life and at every step of the career ladder. We are unified in our belief that children and their communities can benefit from the efforts of a proficient group of caring and involved individuals, and that just a little of our time and talents can help make our communities a better place to live and work.”
