Good Morning, Carson Valley: Nov. 20

by Joey Crandall,

GARDNERVILLE, Nev., November 20, 2014 — Good morning and happy Thursday to everyone. If you’re doing your Thanksgiving shopping over the next few days, we’re pulling up a guest piece from Troy Phillips of Battle Born Wine from last year. Troy outlined the best options of what to pair with your Thanksgiving turkey and it turned into one of our most-read articles ever (still true today). You can read his thoughts from last year at this link.

We’ll be giving out 20 pairs of tickets to tonight’s opening of “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay” in a drawing at noon today. If you want to enter the drawing, go to this link here and “like” the photo.

And today is the final day of voting in our search for Carson Valley’s Signature Pizza. You can vote here at this link. Polls close at 5 p.m.

In today’s weather, brought to you by Designing With Nature Landscaping, there is a 70 percent chance of rain between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Daytime high should get up to 52 degrees. Then we’re looking at a 50 percent chance of rain before 10 p.m. as temperatures drop down to 28 degrees. We could see a bit of sun Friday, but another rain storm is in the forecast for Saturday.

Look to Designing With Nature this Holiday Season to install all of your exterior Christmas decorations. They also handle commercial and residential snow removal. Call 775-782-4999 for more information.

In today’s calendar, brought to you by k2 Pilates, the Douglas County Genealogy Group will meet at 1 p.m., Thursday, November 20 at Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville. Topic: Honoring Our Military Service Women. Includes a DVD on women fliers of WWII. Please bring records of women who served. Visitors welcome. For more information, contact Sheila (775) 267-3216.

We’ll be out and about this afternoon, tagging along with the Block D Letterman’s club as they complete their shopping for their annual Turkey Drive.

Also, we sat down with Judge Michael Gibbons last week to talk about the newly-created Appellate Court system and his application to serve on its bench. We’re working on his profile piece this morning.

That’s a full lid for a busy morning. Take care out there and have a great day!
