Garnering 35.64 percent of the vote, The Corner Bar’s Margherita Pizza claimed the title of Carson Valley’s Signature Pizza for 2014, holding off a strong charge from Nik N’ Willies’ Jobs’ Peak pizza (26.73 percent.).
We it after Burger Wars, and it is equally true for the Pizza Wars – for anyone who has tasted any of the six finalists, you know there were only winners in this competition. And, along those lines, we urge you once again to get out, support local business and try all of the finalists and nominees and see what you think.
We’ll be dropping off the coveted Pizza Wars Plaque, sponsored by Accolades Trophies and Engraving to Corner Bar owner Pasquale Cioffi in the coming weeks. In the meantime, be thinking of who you’d like to nominate for Sandwich Wars in December. Voting starts Dec. 1.

The Corner Bar: “Margherita Pizza”

The newest establishment in the mix of finalists offers up a popular dinner item equal parts pizza and chips made from scratch. They use a “00” imported Italian flour for the flat oven-baked crust and top it with a little extra virgin olive oil, mozzarella, organic spinach, dried cranberries, feta cheese. It is finished with a good sprinkle of house-toasted almonds and served in bite-sized pieces with two different dipping sauces: raspberry vinaigrette and their house-blended chipotle aioli. They also offer the dish with a gluten-free crust.
Pizza Factory Ranchos: “Ranchos Combo”
Offering pepperoni, Italian sausage, onions, olives, mushrooms, green peppers and salami on the trademark Pizza Factory sauce and crust, this has been a Valley favorite for many years.
Nik n’ Willies: “Job’s Peak”
Hours: Open 3 to 8 p.m. daily.
While they’ve added a hot-to-go option to their list of services, the Ranchos eatery still makes its living on fresh Take-N-Bake pizzas. One of the most popular offerings from the restaurant is the Job’s Peak, served on freshly-made crust, a deep bed of mozzarella and cheddar, real bacon, mushrooms, red onions and fresh garlic all on a white cream sauce.
Jethro’s Oven & Grille: “The Florentine”
Hours: Open 9 a.m. to close daily.
Fresh Spinach and garlic top this Ranchos classic.
Pronto Pizza: “The Tom”

Hours: 3 to 10 p.m., Sunday-Thursday; 3 to 11 p.m., Friday & Saturday.
Concocted by a former employee of the same name, the Tom includes salami, pepperoni, garlic, linguica, onion, provolone, feta and cheddar cheese.
