RENO, Nev., November 14, 2014 — After a remarkable run through the regional playoffs, the Northern Division I Regional Champion Douglas volleyball team saw its dream season cut short in the state semifinals against Shadow Ridge Friday night at Galena High School.
Douglas fell in four hard-fought games to the Mustangs, 25-23, 17-25, 25-17, 25-18.
The Tigers battled back from a 21-13 deficit in the first game to tie it at 23, but the Mustangs pushed ahead for the 25-23 win.
Douglas then largely dominated the second game, building leads of 12-4 and later 18-8.
The Tigers claimed an early lead in Game 3 but Shadow Ridge surged back to build a 21-11 lead. The Tigers again mounted a rally, running off six of the next seven points, but the Mustangs closed it out from there.
In the final game, Shadow Ridge held the lead throughout, though Douglas never let it outside of striking distance.
The Tigers closed the gap to 15-12 at one point, and later 18-16, but would not get any closer.
