The Douglas girls soccer team claimed its third regional title in six years Saturday, beating Galena 1-0 in the regional championship at Damonte Ranch High School.

Douglas moves on to next week’s state tournament in Las Vegas.

The game was scoreless through the first 75 percent of the game, though Douglas held a distinct advantage in scoring opportunities.

Gabby Vega punched a nice entry cross home in the 68th minute though to provide the decisive goal.

Douglas fended off a late Galena charge and goalkeeper Corryne Millet got her hands on a shot destined for the top left corner of the net in the waning seconds to preserve the shutout and the victory.

The Tigers, currently ranked No. 25 in the country by TopDrawerSoccer.com, improved to 25-0 on the year with the win.
