Morning News Roundup

Good morning and a happy October to everyone.
Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School hosts the first district-wide Parent Expo for parents of middle schoolers tonight with a series of available mini-seminars including internet safety, study habits, college savings and the teenage brain. After a keynote address, parents will be able to choose two of the mini-sessions to attend. Babysitting is free (for ages under 12) and dinner will be provided. The events starts at 5 p.m. and runs through 8 p.m.
Carson Valley Inn announced several weeks ago Amador Stage Lines’ plans to begin a shuttle service between the hotel/casino and the Reno Tahoe Airport. In his blog this morning, CVI marketing director Bill Henderson announced Amador’s proposed rates for the service: $24 one-way and $43 round-trip. When you consider the roughly $10-14 you’d spend on gas driving up there and back and the roughly $14 (between $10 and $24 depending on your spot and length of stay) per day parking fee, it winds up being a pretty good deal. There will also be a fare between Minden and Carson City, $8 one-way and $14.50 round-trip. Bill writes a great blog (one of my favorite reads every week) on Wednesday mornings. You can read it here: http://carsonvalleyinn.blogspot.com/2014/10/airporter-shuttle-rates-october-golf.html
The Douglas girls soccer team escaped a real battle Tuesday evening in Reno, beating Galena 3-2. It was the first goals the Lady Tigers allowed in Northern Nevada this year, and the first scoring allowed since the opening weekend against Pahrump Valley. Douglas volleyball swept past Wooster last night as well.
Look for clear skies and a high of 65 degrees outside today. Temperatures should creep back into the 80s by Friday.
In today’s calendar, presented to you by k2 Pilates, the Douglas County Public Library Minden branch hosts Toddler Storytime (18 months to 3 years old) at 10:30 a.m. today. The Minden Library is located at 1625 Library Lane. Visit douglas.lib.nv.us, or call 775-782-9841 for more information.
The Galena boys soccer team is scheduled to make the trip to Douglas at 3:30 p.m. The Douglas cross country team competes in the South Tahoe retro relays at 3 p.m.
And the Minden Town Board holds its monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. at 1602 Esmeralda Avenue in Minden. The full agenda is viewable here.
That’s a full lid for this morning. Take care out there and have a great day.
(Correction, Oct. 1, 3:36 p.m.): An item in the Morning News Roundup for Oct. 1, made it sound as though Carson Valley Inn would be running the new airport shuttle service set to begin in the near future. Amador Stage Lines will operate the shuttle between the Reno Tahoe International Airport and Carson Valley Inn.
