Meals of Hope aiming to pack 100,000 meals to be donated to food closet

Staff Reports

Meals of Hope, an organization that focuses on helping to feed families in need in Carson Valley and the surrounding region, is planning a meal-packing event for Aug. 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Sierra Lutheran High School, 3601 Romans Roads in Minden.

Businesses, civic groups, faith-based organizations, school groups and any individuals interested in helping those in need are welcome to participate. The organization is seeking churches, businesses and civic groups to sponsor tables at the event.

$1,500, 10 volunteers and two hours of time spent packing the meals equates to 5,000 meals to be donated back into the community through the Carson Valley Community Food Closet. $7,500 and 50 volunteers for two hours equals about 25,000 meals.

Organizers of this event are hoping to pack more than 100,000 meals.
