Good Morning, Carson Valley: Dec. 10

Mitch Park Pond Tuesday morning.

by Joey Crandall,

I know you know it’s cold. So let’s just say it’s maybe 5 degrees outside and move on with it for today. High should approach 29. The heat wave starts tomorrow at 34 and builds to a balmy 43 by Monday. It should at least be noted that Thursday’s forecasted overnight low is 10 degrees warmer than it is right now at nearly 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

It’s Christmas concert week at the area schools (at least for Douglas and Pau-Wa-Lu, the two schools that informed us of their concert plans. We’ll gladly add any more out there to the calendar!). Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School’s Winter Concert will start at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School. Concert: The Douglas High School music program’s concert will be at 6:30 Thursday, featuring the Madrigal singers, women’s choir, jazz band and concert band.

Then, for good measure, the Douglas High Madrigal Singers and “Jazz Cats” Jazz Band will perform at the Carson Valley Inn’s outdoor Valley Sky Theatre at 5 and 7 p.m. on Friday evening. Admission is free. Hot chocolate will be for sale.

A couple interesting Northern Division basketball games tonight as the Douglas girls team looks to stay unbeaten against perennial juggernaut Reed High School at 5:15 p.m. in  Sparks. Douglas took the Raiders to overtime during last year’s playoffs and is already much improved this season. Reed will likely be without all-everything standout guard Gabby Williams, who is still rehabbing from a knee injury suffered last season. Williams is the No. 2-ranked senior guard in the country, according to ESPN, and will play for the University of Connecticut next season.

The Douglas boys will have their hands full as well, taking on an always-talented Raider squad at 7 p.m.

Our big project yesterday wound up taking up much of the time dedicated to a couple of our smaller projects. We’ll be catching up with the neglected projects today, while the big project remains something of a thorn in our collective side. We’ll figure it out.

That’s a full lid for this morning. Take care out there and have a great day.
