Buona Sera’s Francesco Gazzana wins throwdown Judges’ Choice

Buona Sera Italian Ristorante played host to Carson Valley’s first chef throwdown Tuesday night as Campo Reno’s celebrity chef Mark Estee and Buona Sera’s own Francesco Gazzana went head-to-head cooking osso buco for a packed house of more than 70 patrons.

Chef Francesco was given the Judges’ Choice award by judges Cynthia Ferris-Bennett (of Events, Ink), Troy Phillips (Battle Borne Wine) and Douglas County Commissioner Lee Bonner.

“I had at least a dozen people say afterwards what fun it was and how they wanted us to do it again,” said Cindi Otto, who owns Buona Sera with her husband, Burr. “I am thinking we will have a guest chef night and turn it into a fundraiser.”

Buona Sera is open Monday and Wednesday-Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Wednesday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
