Happy Veteran’s Day to everyone!
There are a couple events going on around the area, most notably the Free Spaghetti Lunch for Veterans at the Carson Valley Inn. CVI is serving a free spaghetti lunch for all Veterans and Active Military – plus one guest – today. The event will be held in the Valley Ballroom from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Veterans and active military personnel simply present your military ID for entrance, and lunch for you and your guest is on the Carson Valley Inn. There will be a Veteran’s Day colors presentation, the National Anthem and an invocation at 11 a.m.
Buona Sera Italian Ristorante in Minden is offering a 20-percent off discount (not including early bird special or alcohol) throughout the day for veterans and their guest.
And Double J Auto on Southgate in Gardnerville is offering a $20 oil change with tire rotation and 20 percent off any repair for veterans if appointments are made today. Call 775-782-8592.
And Western Nevada College offers veterans and the public the opportunity to spend a part of Veterans Day viewing a documentary film about one of the longest and deadliest battles of the Vietnam War. “Bravo! Common Men, Uncommon Valor” will be screened at 4 p.m. on today, in Marlette Hall on the WNC Carson City campus. Admission is free. The documentary is the story of the Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 26th Marine Regiment, and their struggles to survive during a 77-day siege of Khe Sanh in 1968. Isolated from military assistance and supplies, the Marines were confronted with heavy mortar, rocket and artillery fire, and very possibly, death.
We will be out on a story assignment this morning, where we’ll try out geocaching. We hope to have it posted by the end of the day.
Daytime highs today should approach 70 degrees, before gradually declining into the 50s the rest of the week.
We’re also tracking down a couple leads from this weekend, including a bad traffic accident on Saturday in Gardnerville, which we hope to update you on this afternoon.
That’s a full lid for this morning. Take care out there and have a great day!
