The Douglas High girls tennis team wrapped up its second perfect regular season in the past five years on Thursday, soundly beating Damonte Ranch 16-2 on Senior Day in Minden.

The Lady Tigers (8-0) will host Spanish Springs Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the first round of the Northern Division I team playoffs.

Against Damonte Ranch, freshman Madelyn Landerfelt fought off a tough challenge in the first round to claim a 7-5 win and push ahead to an unbeaten regular season with two more wins during the match.

Courtney McKimmey also went 3-0 for Douglas in the match and Maggie Rich posted a pair of wins in the singles bracket.

Kelly Sonnemann and Katelin Teigen went 3-0 as a doubles team, as did Bryana McNamara and Ingrid Carlson.

Kellie Hergenrader and Tara Cottrill went 2-1 to round out the scoring for Douglas.

Douglas fell 10-8 to Damonte Ranch in Reno last Thursday.

The Tigers built a 4-2 lead through the first round and held onto a tie through the second. Damonte pulled out with the win in the third round though.
Joey Swisher and Jon Pelcher soundly won three sets.
” Connor Lyons showed tremendous determination against Damonte’s number one singles player,” Douglas coach Rod Smith said. “They had exciting rallies that displayed some of the best tennis I’ve seen all year.”
