Good Morning, Carson Valley!

by Joey Crandall,

The Record-Courier reported earlier this week that NV Energy was going to be replacing a length of old underground cable in the Ranchos today. Approximately 20 customers on Mary Jo and Patricia are expected to be without power for periods of time between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Other portions of the Ranchos may lose power for short periods during the same time span. If you are reading this right now and the time is between 9 and 3, you are likely not one of the 20 customers.

Look for a high of about 84 degrees outside today. Twenty percent chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms today. It was the same yesterday and the storm never materialized.

Douglas County reports that Commissioner Doug Johnson, pictured below with his wife, Janice, and Nevada Association of Counties Executive Director Jeff Fontaine, was selected to the 2013 Honor Roll for his service to Douglas County and local communities in the State of Nevada.

Back at the Rim Fire outside of Yosemite, crews are in mop-up mode, though containment is still set at 80 percent and full containment is projected for the end of next week, Smoke hasn’t bothered the Valley at all since last weekend, though. We’ll continue to keep an eye on it for any flare-ups. The monster fire has now burned 255,560 acres.

The Douglas High tennis teams are in action today against Galena, with the boys playing in Minden. In football,  the Douglas freshman (3:30 p.m.) and JV (5:45 p.m.) will host Reed this afternoon and the volleyball team is on the road at Reed.

Leadership Douglas County, class of 2013, is hosting Making Connections: Networking for a better community from 3 to 6 p.m. at the CVIC Hall in Minden. The featured speaker will be University of Nevada, Reno professor Bret L. Simmons. Simmons’ area of focus is organizational behavior, social business and personal branding. Tickets to the event are $20 each  (or $15 each for groups of two or more) and can be purchased by contacting the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce at 775-782-8144.

That’s a full lid for today, though we’ll be posting whatever new we run across as we venture forth.
