A busy weekend across the Valley wrapped up last night with a bit of real news as Douglas County reported on its Facebook page that the US Forest Service was tending to a two-acre fire on Loop Canyon, deep off of Leviathan Mine Road. A helicopter, multiple engines and a hand crew are on scene and tending to the fire.
You’re likely to see smoke in the area today also from the American Fire west of Lake Tahoe. The National Weather Service has posted this graphic:
From the NWS: “The fire will continue to affect the Reno-Tahoe area over the coming days. The American Fire is burning heavy timber on the western slopes of the Sierra, about 25 miles west of Lake Tahoe in the canyon of the North Fork of the Middle Fork American River. This is a graphic of Hysplit model run of the projected smoke moving into the Reno-Tahoe area Monday evening. West to Southwest winds will push smoke into Reno-Tahoe late in the afternoon and into the evening hours. Green shading shows areas of smoke, while blue shading shows areas of dense smoke.”
Ron Harpin sent in photos from the junior rodeo (here) and Splash Dogs (here) and Brad Cockman caught this photo from the Blues Monsters concert last night that opened the Carson Valley Inn’s Valley Sky Theatre:
Splash Dogs drew a large crowd throughout the afternoon and appeared to be quite a success for its inaugural Valley run. They have an event in Yerington this weekend, and the national championships will be in Reno Sept. 12-15. You can find out more information about it at www.splashdogs.com.
The Douglas High football team opened camp this morning with its summer conditioning testing as part of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association “Heat Acclimation Period.” They start official practice later this week. Several other athletic programs at the high school will conduct conditioning this week. You can find their schedules on the school’s Web site at this link.
We’re looking at high 80s and low 90s with clear skies all week on the weather front.
Here at CVT, I’ll have a story on the Carson Valley/Lake Tahoe Adventure Motorcycle Ride & Rendezvous coming in this morning, along with whatever other stories we run into today.
