Good Morning, Carson Valley

 by Joey Crandall, joey@carsonvalleytimes.com

Today is just the beginning of what should be one of the busiest weekends of the summer.

The Valley gets its taste of Hot August Nights through the middle of today as the annual Poker Run makes a lunch stop in Minden Park. Should be plenty of interesting things going on down there today.

Toad Theatre presents Dinner and a Show: The Bob and Al Show at Lentine’s Italian Restaurant in Gardnerville. Tickets are $30 per person and includes dinner, salad, coffee and dessert. All shows start at 7 p.m., with the house opening at 6:45 p.m. For tickets, or more information, call 775-219-3577 or visit http://www.toadtheatre.weebly.com.

The Douglas Dolfins host the High Country League Swimming Championships at the Carson Valley Swim Center throughout the weekend, starting Friday, and of course, the Genoa Peak Madathon marathon and half-marathon is Saturday. For more information, http://www.ascentruns.com/MAD-A-THON.html.

The Douglas County Junior Rodeo runs Saturday and Sunday at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Organizers could still use sponsors and volunteers – call 450-7847 for more information.

And Relay for Life is Saturday, running into Sunday, at Lampe Park.

The weekend wraps up with the Carson Valley Inn’s 29th birthday party/Valley Sky Theatre grand opening. SplashDogs.com will host a dog dock jumping event with preliminary rounds starting at noon and continuing through the evening, and the Blues Monsters will play a free concert at the new outdoor events center. For more information on the dock jumping, visit http://www.splashdogs.com or e-mail tony@splashdogs.com.

If I missed any events for the weekend, let me know. we’ll get them on the calendar.

We posted school district bus schedules for both the secondary and elementary schools in the Valley yesterday. If you need them, you can find them at this link.

Contractors are adding gravels to the road shoulders on East Valley Road today, so there will be some delays associated with that.

Valley realtor Ginger Easley is in San Diego with her family this week and sent in a couple pictures. We did this with Douglas coach Ernie Monfiletto last week after he sent a  couple pictures of Fenway Park in Boston to us.

If you are out of town and you come up with a great picture of wherever you are, send it on in! We’ll post it on the Web site. It may not be a picture of the Valley, but it does involve someone from the Valley – and that’s what counts. Send your photos to joey@carsonvalleytimes.com or visit our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cvalleytimes.

It’s a business day at CVT, so I’ll be out and about. We have a couple stories coming in, including the promised Visitor’s Authority story from yesterday.
