Good Morning, Carson Valley!

It’s going to be windy and dry out today, and expect some more smoke thanks to the 14,400-acre Aspen Fire in the Sierra National Forest between Fresno and Mammoth.

Speaking of fire, be careful out there today with any combustibles as the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for most of the day.

Voting is quickly wrapping up in the Discover Your Nevada contest conducted by Travel Nevada. The Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park is in the finals for the Reno Tahoe Territory against the Wilbur D. May Center. You can vote here: http://travelnevada.com/discover.

We’ll have the story on Nevada Unique Store coming in at some point today and I’ll be out and about in town for a good portion of the morning.

We’ve officially concluded our first month in operation. You, the readers, have surprised us at every turn with your overwhelming response and acceptance of our new venture, eclipsing every one of our first-month goals by up to 50 percent in some categories. For that, we can’t thank you enough.

This is your Valley, and your publication. Keep the photos, story ideas and input coming. It’ll continue to be a fluid endeavor as we continue to figure out what this Web site will really be. What we are happiest about is that you get what we are trying to do — provide snapshots of life in our Valley through positive features, incredible (and largely reader-submitted!) photography and open information channels.

I’ll look forward to meeting more of you in the coming month and can’t wait to see what this endeavor will become with your help. Thank you again.
