Good Morning, Carson Valley!

Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch still reports both fires are burning on, and north, of Jobs Peak. Both the Faye Fire and the Stutler Fire are listed at a quarter acre. This makes Day 3 for the Faye and Day 2 for the Stutler. Crews are onscene, keeping the blazes under control, but both are a good way up the mountain which is hampering the efforts to extinguish.

Helicopters are doing bucket work on both fires.

Douglas County Mosquito Abatement District is spraying for mosquitoes over Genoa and the surrounding area after finding mosquitoes that tested positive for West Nile Virus. Spraying started yesterday evening and continued this morning.

As part of its effort to improve the overall county road system, the County Department of Public Works has several projects going on today. Expect delays and/or closures on the following:

  • Fish Springs Road from Home Lane to Homestead Road
  • Windmill Lane from Fish Springs Road north approximately ¼ mile
  • East Valley Road from Fish Springs Road south to Jo Lane
  • Drayton Boulevard from Centerville Lane to Pleasantview Drive (time permitting).

We’ll roll out Scott Neuffer’s first Carson Valley Times story this afternoon. Scott is a great writer who has been doing freelance work for a number of national publications recently. He’s also got a pretty mean dribble-drive on the basketball court. Some of you may remember his account last year of getting caught in the wilderness in a heavy lightning storm. Today’s story won’t be quite as exciting, but it is pretty good!

Out and about in the Valley today, the Tahoe/Douglas Elks Summerfest/Carnival runs from 5 to 11 p.m. tonight, and Toad Theatre will present its Dinner and a Show:The Actor’s Nightmare at Lentine’s Italian Restaurant in Gardnerville. Tickets are $30 per person and include dinner, salad, coffee and dessert. The show starts at 7 p.m., with the house opening at 6:45 p.m. For tickets, or more information, call 775-219-3577 or visit
