Carson Valley resident Wyatt Denny, fresh off a slew of state titles last month, will be heavily in the mix for the all-around cowboy title at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyo., next week
Last year, Denny was the national runner-up in bareback riding and finished seventh in the all-around standings.
This year, he has qualified in bareback riding, cutting and steer wrestling.
Denny had a stellar year, competing strongly in New Zealand and dominating the Nevada high school circuit. He’s competed in a number of rodeos in the last two weeks in preparation for nationals.
His preliminary draw for nationals has him competing in bareback on Monday morning and Friday night (July 19), boys cutting Tuesday morning and Thursday night (July 18) and steer wrestling Wednesday morning and Wednesday night.
The National High School Finals Rodeo is annually one of the largest rodeos in the world.
